Celebrity Chef Claims Luxury Japanese Knives as his Favourite

Heston Blunmenthal recommends Tojiro Senkou - Get yours at knives.co.uk

Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, columnist for the Sunday Times and owner of the 3-Michelin starred Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, is to officially endorse the Tojiro Senkou knife range after he found them to be his favourite knives.

The new Tojiro Senkou range of Japanese kitchen knives and accessories from I. Grunwerg Ltd makes centuries of Samurai sword making tradition and expertise accessible to everyone.  After testing under laboratory conditions, Tojiro Senkou has been found to be one of the sharpest kitchen knife ranges on the market.

The specialist manufacturing techniques were developed for the feared Samurai warrior caste, which needed a weapon that would be reliably sharp, strong and sufficiently durable to defend them against repeated danger.  Samurai warriors often gave names to their swords and considered them to be the ‘soul’ of their warriorship, so style and character are also key design features.

The name ‘Senkou’ means ‘flash’ in Japanese, relating to the flash of inspiration that sparked their creation.  Tojiro Senkou knives combine ancient history with modern technology to create a truly remarkable culinary tool.  Up to 63 layers of special Damascus’ steel is folded and hammered together to create the extremely sharp and hard, yet flexible blades required by professional chefs.

As part of his endorsement, Heston Blumenthal uses the knives in a TV series entitled ‘In Search of Perfection’, which is being supported by an 8-page feature, competition and free DVD in the Style Section of the Sunday Times.
